The Financial Times
FT Weekend Magazine Cover and Editorial Conceptual Illustrations
Studio Duco was commissioned to create the cover and 4 full-page illustrations for the FT Weekend Magazine, under the art direction of Shannon Gibson, within a 2-week deadline.
The brief was to illustrate the narrative of a groundbreaking new drug said to end obesity, drawing inspiration from Gustav Doré's iconic, angelic biblical illustrations. Studio Duco’s intricate etching-style artwork blended classical references with modern themes, effectively conveying both the hope and the complexity surrounding the drug.
The illustrations captured the ethereal, almost divine tone of Doré’s work, while infusing it with contemporary relevance. The result was a visually stunning and thought-provoking series that elevated the editorial narrative and added a layer of visual sophistication to the FT Weekend Magazine.
We used Gustave Doré's 'Moses Breaks the Tables of the Law' engraving, as our main reference source for the Financial Times magazine cover.
